Robert Rawlins, aka Robster finds inspiration for his work from his travels and living abroad. He is greatly influenced by custom car culture where colors are hyper-exaggerated and the styles tweaked just beyond the norm.
In the technical sense, Robster would be considered a stencil artist because each painting is created using a hand cut stencil and then layered and painted with spray paint, but his paintings do not take the form of what is traditionally thought of as stencil art. In his work, the layered stencils create depth and shadows, mood and light.
In the iKons show (|happening Thursday June 17, 2016) , the pieces shown mostly examine iconic figures, both in ancient tradition and pop culture.
The "K" in the iKons title of the show is a nod to Kustom Kulture, which pushes the limit of color and style. This is reflected in the bold colors and compositions in the show.
The inspiration for the show was found while traveling mostly through Asia and the Middle East.
